For a teenager who struggle d with shyness and lack of self confidence. I found it hard to make friends and enjoy socialising. My lunch hour , yes a whole hour, provided a refuge from social pressure. Hockey practice , tennis practice , netball or simply curled up in a quiet corner with a book meant getting through the day . School would have been unbearably lonely and stressful without that down time . I feel sorry for kids at school these days .
I've said this for years. Core Art/Craft practices are not staples of education curriculums anymore, and this is pushing our alternate thinkers and non academics into a 'you don't fit into society' model. Just in our lifetime, there used to be jobs for everyone and schooling for everyone.....the push for excellence in STEM education should be STEA(Arts)M education. Creative expression should be mandatory to creating a pioneering culture.
What a glorious Saturday! I trust everyone is making the most of this spectacular ‘winter’ day- how blessed are we?!
For those who were planning to visit DJW’s Winter Sun exhibit and take part in one of the Artist Talks on either Saturday 17th or 24th August - the Gallery space is inaccessible due to the beautiful location being utilised for Weddings. If we could ask you to attend the talks on either Sunday 18th or 25th August instead.
If Sunday doesn’t work for you, shoot us a private message and we’ll arrange a time over the exhibit for DJW to meet for a chat on a weekday!
Very much looking forward to sharing Winter Sun with you and thank-you for your understanding! ... See MoreSee Less

ARTESCAPE 2019 The Tanks Arts Centre DONALD WATERS It's always joyous vibes around the Donald Waters workshops who is back again this year due to demand for another very successful workshop. Pictured here is one of his students former Artists at work member Joan Clealand. I love the free spirit that Don fosters in all of his students and I look forward to seeing all the finished results. Viewing of completed artwork is encouraged by the wider public between 4 and 6 on Friday afternoon at the tanks 4. Don always works on a canvas himself and this painting has his signature style of rhythmical brushwork and a juxtaposition of colours. It is an atmospheric piece indeed, review by Judith Ann Carter ... See MoreSee Less
